Is Podcasting Still Worth It?
Apr 03, 2023Here are 5 reasons why the answer is definitely “yes”
Quality content is key to building a successful online business. By providing value through free content you’ll help new customers discover your brand and build trust with your audience, which will lead to more sales down the line.
Most entrepreneurs start with social media posts, then graduate to longer-form content like blogs and videos. But what about podcasts? It seems like almost everyone has their own podcast—is it worth trying to compete?
Here at Leadpages, we have a lot of experience with both content marketing and podcasting. Here are five reasons why we believe you should start your own podcast.
Diversify your channels
Everyone consumes content in different ways. Some prefer blogs, some like short videos, and others spend most of their time on social media.
If you limit yourself to one channel you’re limiting the number of people you can reach.
For example, some people might be really interested in your content, but the only free time they have is during their commute. This means that blogs, videos, and social media likely won’t work for them. But a podcast is perfect.
Podcasts are growing in popularity
According to a study by RiversideFM, 62% of Americans have listened to at least one podcast as of 2022. That’s up from 57% in 2021. Of that 62%, 38% had listened to a podcast in the last month, and 28% had listened to one in the last week.
With so many podcast listeners there’s an excellent opportunity to introduce a new audience to your brand.
They’re cheap to create
You might think that starting a podcast is expensive. And there are certainly many entrepreneurs who invest a lot of money into their shows.
However, it’s absolutely possible to create a podcast on a budget. All you really need is a microphone, and you can get a good one for around $75.
As you build your show you can invest in better equipment, an editor, and a voice-over artist to create an intro and outro. But these aren’t necessary in the beginning.
If your show provides value you’ll gain listeners, even if you don’t have the highest production values.
You can repurpose other content
Maybe you want to start a podcast, but you don’t know what to talk about. Well, the great thing about podcasts is they’re the perfect vehicle for repurposing existing content.
For example, if you already have a blog you can turn your most popular posts into podcasts. Not only does this make it easy to create new episodes, but it exposes your best content to a new audience that might not have discovered it otherwise.
Collaborate with others in your industry
When you first start your podcast it will likely just be you on the mic. But as your show develops you’ll probably want to invite some guests onto the show.
This is a great opportunity to collaborate with other entrepreneurs and businesses. When you invite people onto your show there’s a good chance they’ll promote the episode to their audience, which will help you gain new listeners.
If the collaboration is successful it will likely open up further opportunities, like appearing on their podcast, guest blog posts, and joint promotions.
So, what are you waiting for? Fire up that mic and start talking. You never know who might be listening.
